In silico Design Space Investigation of a Novel Tablet Coating Process

This talk provides an overview how the varying process conditions can influence the drying behavior inside a ConsiGma® coater. You will discover how parameters like temperature, drying air flow rate
and spray rate influence the tablet temperature and evaporation efficiency. It will be shown how the optimal process point can be chosen using a limited in silico variance study considering the effect of the drum load, rotation rate and material properties of the tablets on the coating quality.

Peter Böhling holds a PhD in process engineering and works at RCPE since 2012 he was recently promoted to senior scientist. His work focuses on the modeling of tablet coating processes using high fidelity CFD-DEM models, as well as the movement and behavior of complex powders in feed frames, mixers, and other unit operations. During the last year, he researched the influence of process conditions on the coating quality as well as the influence of material behavior on the residence time and mixing in different processes. rotation rate and material properties of the tablets on the coating quality.
