Explore our interactive ECCPM 2026 workshops taking place on the first day of the conference.
The workshops are included in the conference fee but require separate registration.
When registering, you will be asked to select a first and second preference. We will do our best to place you in your first-choice workshop. If a workshop does not receive enough registrations, it may unfortunately not take place, and you will be assigned to your second choice instead. The same applies if a workshop is already fully booked.

ECCPM Workshops
Workshop 1: Hands-On Mechanochemistry – When the World Needs You to Shake Things Up
brought to you by WAB
In this interactive workshop, participants explore the shift from traditional solvent-based chemistry to mechanochemical processing, using WAB’s scalable bead mill technology to handle challenging slurries and solid–liquid systems. They gain insights into the first industrial-scale bead mill mechanochemistry case, green metrics and process optimization, and see live operation of equipment that enables continuous, sustainable manufacturing routes.
Target group: professionals from pharma and chemical process development, manufacturing, and R&D interested in mechanochemistry, continuous processing, and greener reactor technologies.

Workshop 2: DEM Simulation with XPS
In this hands-on session, participants use RCPE’s XPS (eXtended Particle Simulations) software to set up and run Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulations of pharmaceutical processes and explore realistic case studies. Together, we discuss what input data and process understanding are needed, guide participants through the execution of simulations, and focus on the interpretation of key results for process design and optimization.
Target group: engineers and scientists in pharmaceutical process development or manufacturing with an interest in particle and process simulation; basic familiarity with pharmaceutical unit operations is helpful but not strictly required.

Workshop 3: Retrieval Augmented Generation – Safe and Secure Use of Gen AI in Pharma
in cooperation with LeftshiftOne
This hands-on workshop introduces Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and shows how Gen AI can be used safely and traceably in a regulated pharma (GxP) environment. Participants work with curated regulatory and internal process knowledge bases to ask questions and generate draft documents with verifiable sources.
Target group: anyone interested; no prior Gen AI experience required.

Workshop 4: Development and Application of Soft Sensors for Pharmaceutical Quality Control
This workshop introduces the concept of soft sensors for pharmaceutical processes and covers process model types and identification, observer design, and their implementation in real systems to support quality control. Participants learn how soft sensors enhance Process Analytical Technology (PAT) and control strategies and – depending on the number of participants – may take part in a pilot plant demonstration.
Target group: apharmaceutical and process engineers, as well as related professionals interested in PAT, process monitoring, and control strategies in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Workshop 5: Hot Melt Extrusion in Pharma – From Fundamentals to Hands-On Practice
in cooperation with Leistritz Extrusionstechnik
This workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to hot melt extrusion (HME) and its versatile applications in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Participants will first gain a theoretical understanding of HME principles, process design and the production of various dosage forms, with a focus on amorphous solid dispersions and micropellets.
In the hands-on session, attendees will work directly with Leistritz experts to explore different screw elements and their functions in pharmaceutical extrusion, and observe a live demonstration of a 12mm Leistritz twin-screw extruder with a conventional downstream set-up for micropellet production. The workshop also covers practical methods for measuring and evaluating residence time distribution within the extruder, providing valuable insights into process optimization and product quality.
Target group: professionals and researchers in pharmaceutical development, manufacturing and process engineering interested in hot melt extrusion, continuous processing and advanced dosage form design.
